The Famous Carson City Morgan
Carson City Morgan Dollars are among the most recognisable and sought-after coins in American numismatics. Produced in Nevada during the great silver-mining era of the American West, coins carrying the “CC” mintmark have developed an exceptionally strong collector following.
The 1883-CC is particularly associated with the remarkable Treasury discovery that eventually resulted in the GSA sales of the 1970s and early 1980s. Large quantities of previously forgotten Carson City Morgan Dollars had remained stored in government vaults for decades.
Rather than melting these historic coins, the U.S. Government offered them to collectors through the General Services Administration.
CAC Certified MS61
This particular example has subsequently been authenticated and graded Mint State 61 by CAC Grading, providing independent confirmation of both authenticity and condition.
MS61 means the coin remains uncirculated, retaining original Mint State characteristics despite the contact marks normally associated with Morgan Dollars stored and transported in large Treasury bags.
The coin displays Morgan's famous portrait of Liberty on the obverse, while the reverse features the American bald eagle with the distinctive CC mintmark identifying its Carson City origin.
Why Collect This Coin?

For collectors of Morgan Dollars, Carson City coinage, American Wild West history or historic silver, this is a particularly attractive piece with a fascinating story stretching back more than 140 years.
A genuine piece of Carson City and American monetary history.
